This webpage is dedicated to our trip to French Polynesia. We visited three islands during our stay - Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tahiti. These islands are known as the "Society Islands". There are several hundred, if not several thousand small islands. French Polynesia encompases several of these islands. For more information on French Polynesia, go to this website: http://www.polynesianislands.com/fp/.

The islands are located about 2500 miles directly south of Hawaii at 140.00 W Longitude, 15.00 S Latitude, which is south of the equator. Our trip started in Baltimore Washington International Airport, we flew to Denver, CO, 1504 miles. We then switched planes and flew to Los Angeles, 844 miles. From Los Angelos (LAX), the trip was 4110 miles, travelling on Air New Zealand, which we highly recommend. The total flight time from LA to Tahiti was 8 hours and 20 minutes, roughly 14 hours in the air for the whole trip, but 26 hours spent travelling with layovers and such. There were times during the flight from LA to Tahiti that the plane reached a speed of just under 620 miles/hr, with an outdoor air temperature of -67 degrees!

We landed in Papeete, Tahiti at 2am local time, they are 5 hours behind EST. We had a layover of 4 hours, which was when the airport reopened. We had the first flight out on Air Moorea at 6am, it was a 12 passenger prop, we were looking right into the cockpit! We landed at Moorea Airport around 6:15am. If your counting, that's the 5th airport and 4th plane in our 26 hour day of travel :-)
